Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements and review process.

What you write about is up to you. Over the years we have received essays about the cancer diagnosis of family members, teachers, and friends, as well as essays about cancer in the abstract. We have received stories of triumph and stories of great loss, stories written in times of turbulence and stories written in times of quiet reflection. Every story has been honest and heartfelt, and each one is unique.

To apply for the Mitchell Scholarship, eligible high school students must submit an online application form in the spring before they graduate. The online application for the Mitchell Scholarship is now open! We welcome eligible students to submit applications here before midnight on April 1, 2020.

Scholarships are awarded based on merit and financial need, with the goal of assisting students who might not otherwise continue their post-secondary education without the financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded on a renewable basis for up to 4 years (depending on the grade level of the student). In order to receive the renewable awards, students must earn a minimum of 12 credits per semester and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Recipients must be a Maine resident entering 1st year of post-secondary education.

POET Never Satisfied Scholarships are open to students enrolled for Fall Semester 2019 in any two- or four-year post-secondary school, regardless of major or GPA. Never Satisfied Scholars receive up to $5,000 each, and will have the opportunity to visit the POET Sioux Falls campus during the school year.

We consider four aspects of student’s character when awarding scholarships: Courage: Taking risks and following you own conscience with fearlessness. Integrity: Being truthful and trustworthy to oneself and others. Responsibility: Conveying an attitude of commitment and conviction. Concern: Demonstrating compassion and caring attitude towards others, and helping them achieve their best. We do not consider academic achievement, athletic prowess, musical ability, artistic talent or financial need.

The NIADA Foundation proudly sponsors four students each year who have displayed outstanding abilities in education, leadership and service in the community. These students will each receive a $3,500 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.

This award is presented to a college-bound high school senior in York or Cumberland County, who in some unique and significant way contributes to his/her school or community as a whole through volunteerism. It is meant to recognize those who might normally go unrecognized through traditional awards criteria. The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated collaboration, integrity, respect and excellence from behind the scenes with a positive attitude and a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary.
