Miscellaneous Projects

The New Generation of Riverton Girls 

The New Generation of Riverton Girls is a service organization started in 2011. The group is open to all girls between the ages of 13 and 18 who want to give back to their community and help change perceptions of new Americans in Portland. 

projects so far include:
  • Neighborhood trash clean ups
  • Wayside Soup Kitchen services
  • Flyer distribution to families in Riverton
  • Riverton School Back to school BBQ
  • Portland Ovations Offstage event at King Middle School with Dan Zanes
  • Attended "Warriors Don't Cry" performance
  • Attended a performance of the Creole Choir of Cuba

Fire Poster Contests

Each year, during Fire Prevention Week, The Housing Authority Insurance Group sponsors a fire poster contest for housing authorities across the country. Our students love to share their knowledge, be creative, and win some money in the process!

Block Printing


In collaboration with the NAACP, Bowdoin College, The Portland Museum of Art, and local artist Daniel Minter. 

Students were given the opportunity to tour two exhibits of african block printing and then create their own. 

The Maine Red Claws 

Reading Days

Our good friends at the Maine Red Claws came to visit and read stories to us. 

Youth from the study center were thrilled to meet the players and hung on their every word!
